Lijiang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Lijiang region. The naming section is located at Xiangshan, Lijiang County, Yunnan. Named by Zhao Guoguang in 1965.
Lithology and Thickness
Four ascending members are distinguished: (1) purplish red sandy mudstone with siltstone, nearly 400 m thick; (2) red mudstone with silty and calcareous mudstone and thin-bedded siltstone, ~340 m thick; (3) flesh-red and dark brownish red dolomitic and calcareous breccia, >100 m thick; and (4) purplish red sandy mudstone and mudstone with siltstone, sandstone and sandy conglomerate and green and variegated mudstone bands, marls and mudstone nodules, ~100 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It unconformably overlies the Middle Triassic Beiya Fm at type section. Elsewhere, next younger unit is the Goulang Fm (early Eocene)
Upper contact
It disconformably or unconformably underlies Oligocene or younger (Shuanghe Fm in Lijiang region; Sanhougou Fm in Simao basin); or Pliocene-age Yanyuan Fm in southernmost Sichuan
Regional extent
This formation is distributed sporadically in Weixi, Lanping, Jianchuan, Lijiang, Jinggu and Mengla, with a total thickness up to 1593 m.

Fossils
In the Fourth Member abundant mammal fossils are found; they include ~20 species, of which the important ones are Lunania youngi, Breviodon minutus, Eomoropus quadridentatus and Anthracokeryx sinensis.
